West Bend 3-Quart Electric Fondue Set
At first glance, the West Bend 3-Quart Electric Fondue Set seems like a great deal.
It has all the features we like to see in an electric fondue set. The pot is well made, sturdy and aesthetically pleasing. It also has a magnetic cord for safety, a nonstick interior for easy cleanup, is dishwasher safe, and has heat resistant handles for easy transportation. The variable heat setting goes up to 400 degrees, which means the pot works for oil fondue along with cheese and chocolate fondue. Unfortunately, that’s where this set runs into problems.
Although the temperature is supposed to be adjustable, the pot seemed to have only two settings: Off and BOILING HOT. This was majorly frustrating when using the pot for cheese fondue. Constantly tweaking the temperature didn’t seem to do any good at all.
We also had problems with the safety cord. The magnet was so weak that the slightest jarring of the cord or the pot caused the safety cord to detach. This wasn’t nearly as big of a problem as the temperature frustration, but it did happen far too often.
Pros:
Affordable, easy to clean, the pot is put together very well.
Cons:
Wacky temperature is a major flaw, touchy magnetic cord.
The Bottom Line:
Although there are some nice features, a frustrating thermostat makes using this set an exercise in frustration. There are much better electric fondue sets available in the same price range.
