Fondue Book Review: The 125 Best Fondue Recipes
The 125 Best Fondue Recipes is true to its name. It tries very hard to cut the many fondue recipes out there down to just a few great ones in each category.
In a nice touch, all of the recipes in the book have a helpful sidebar with tips like what to serve with the fondue and what you can make ahead of time. The recipes are arranged very well on the page and are easy to read. There are some very nice photographs, although they are rather sparse.
The book starts appropriately with the Fondue Essentials section. All the basics, like choosing the right equipment, are covered. It also includes some unexpected tips like what to do with leftover fondue and how to turn your favorite recipes into a fondue.
The Cheese Fondue section starts with a very brief introduction, and quickly gets right into the recipes. The quality of the recipes is impressive, but the quantity is lacking a bit compared to the rest of the book. For instance, the broth section has 11 more recipes than the cheese section.
The Oil section also gets right into the recipes. All of them seem very appetizing and fairly easy to make. Recipes like Zesty Lime Chicken and Hawaiian Pork seem especially interesting.
Perhaps because it is so healthy, or maybe because the authors enjoy the versatility of it…Whatever the reason, broth fondue gets some major love in this book. Its section is packed with cooking and serving tips and 40 great recipes. If broth fondue interests you, buy this book before any other.
No fondue recipe book is complete without a chapter on Dessert fondue. The recipes here are fairly standard. Although some, like Cheesecake Fondue and Maple Walnut Fondue, look particularly good.
The book finishes with a nice collection of dips and sauces for the meat fondues.
“The 125 Best Fondue Recipes” ranks right up there with the best fondue recipe books. If you are looking for a no-nonsense collection of fondue recipes, you can’t do better than this one.
